Frequently asked questions

Clear answers to the questions I get asked most, by discipline: development, photography, exploration.

Development

How much does a senior full-stack developer cost in Belgium?

A senior freelance full-stack developer in Belgium costs €600 to €750 a day direct, compared to the market average of €450 to €500 (agencies add 15 to 40 percent markup). I charge at the senior end due to eleven years in production, work on national election platforms, and the Pulsar framework. A quick quote calculator gives your range, then a firm quote follows enquiry. On-site work adds travel from Huy at €0.42 per kilometre.

What does a code and architecture audit find?

A code audit identifies security vulnerabilities, performance bottlenecks, technical debt, dependency risks and architectural weaknesses from source through production. You receive a prioritised, actionable report with clear next steps, not just a list of issues.

Should I have a senior developer review my inherited codebase?

Inherited code builds technical debt, security blind spots and performance drag that compound over time. With eleven years in production I trace bugs to root cause, assess whether the architecture scales, and flag compliance or security risks before they become costly.

Can you work on my team for a few months instead of just a fixed project?

Yes. Alongside audits, builds and hardening, I work as a senior contributor in your sprints, tools and processes, billed at my day rate with monthly invoicing. This suits teams needing senior capacity for a defined period rather than a single deliverable.

How do I verify a developer's technical claims are genuine?

Walk through a recent project end to end with them, asking about tradeoffs and what they'd change. Look for verifiable work you can visit live and references from teams they worked with, not just logos. My portfolio links to live projects and I welcome a detailed walkthrough of how each was built.

Can a freelancer improve security without a full rebuild?

Yes. Security hardening prioritises high-impact fixes first: authentication, input validation, error handling and dependency updates. The engagement ranks risks and fixes what matters most, so you improve security without rewriting the application.

Should I hire a full-stack developer or separate front and back-end specialists?

For most small to mid projects, one senior full-stack developer is faster: a single owner of the whole stack, no handoffs, fewer meetings and clear accountability. Separate specialists make sense at large scale or when front and back workloads run in parallel. For focused builds, audits or product work, full-stack keeps momentum and budget tight.

How do remote developers work effectively with a Belgium-based team?

Clear communication matters more than time zones. Pair programming, regular syncs, documentation and async updates sustain momentum. I work remote-first across BE, LU, FR, NL and DE teams, with optional on-site meetings billed separately for travel.

Can a senior developer mentor my team while building our project?

Yes. While auditing or hardening your codebase, I teach your team to spot issues, review code effectively and improve practice, so capability outlasts the engagement.

What experience matters most for PHP and Laravel projects?

Laravel patterns, database design, API architecture and PHP 8.x are essential. Beyond that: payment systems, multi-tenancy, performance tuning and OWASP-grade security. I bring eleven years in production with PHP 8.5, Laravel and Symfony.

What should a developer ask before quoting my project?

Current architecture, team size, scale expectations, known pain points, compliance needs and timeline. A quote without understanding your context is a red flag. I give firm quotes on enquiry, once I understand what you need.

How long does a code audit take?

Most audits run from a few days to two weeks depending on codebase size and complexity. You receive a structured report with prioritised findings and clear next steps, with scope and timeline agreed up front.

Photography

What does professional portrait photography cost?

Pricing depends on the shoot type, duration and location. Use the on-site estimator for a ballpark figure based on session length, or fill the booking form with your details for a custom quote that factors in travel from Huy.

Do you shoot on-site or do I need to come to you?

I come to you and shoot on-site. Travel from Huy is billed separately by distance. This works well for corporate team headshots, events and any shoot where your own setting matters, with no studio trip.

What types of photography do you specialize in?

Portrait, corporate headshots, events, automobile, product and reportage. Each includes the full service: briefing, on-site shoot, professional retouching and delivery. Genres can be combined in a single multi-purpose session.

How long until I get edited photos after my shoot?

Two to three weeks. A one-hour shoot produces over 300 frames, so the work runs in stages: initial cull and sort, then manual selection. You review the pre-selection in a private gallery and pick your favourites, so I only retouch what you actually want. Editing happens in careful passes on a separate day alongside other bookings.

Can you photograph our whole team for corporate headshots?

Yes, both individual and group corporate headshots shot on-site at your office. Team sessions are available on request.

What's included in your photography service?

The full pipeline: a briefing to understand your needs, the on-site shoot on Sony α7 III, professional retouching and colour grading, then final file delivery. Everything is refined in post-production.

Who owns the photos and what can I do with them?

I keep the copyright and am the only person allowed to edit the images. You receive a usage licence, private or commercial, matched to your intended use. Tell me how you'll use the photos when booking so the licence covers it.

Do you travel to Belgium, Luxembourg, France and other countries?

I work across Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Netherlands and Germany, based in Huy. Travel is billed separately by distance, shown transparently in your quote so you see the full cost upfront.

What happens if your camera breaks during my event?

I carry backup bodies, lenses and memory cards, so a single equipment failure does not stop your shoot or event coverage. Reliability is built into the service.

What should I look for when choosing a photographer for headshots?

Review full sets, not highlights: look for consistent skin tones, flattering light and a coherent look across many faces. Check they shoot whole teams on-site and understand business portraiture. We talk through your goal before booking so the result fits how you'll use the photos.

Exploration

Do you work as a location scout for climbing and outdoor film production?

Yes, I take on location-scouting projects for film and photography across the Ardenne. I assess terrain for technical difficulty, safety and visual impact, handle permits and access, then guide the crew through the shoot. This is portfolio work rather than a standing service, but I approach each project with full commitment.

What skills qualify you for outdoor location scouting and climbing film work?

Climbing, parkour and stealth movement allow me to assess route difficulty, advise on camera positions for vertical terrain, and physically scout hard-to-reach locations. I can guide safe filming approaches on exposed ground and bring movement expertise to projects where accessing or understanding the terrain matters.

Is location scouting your main business or a side project?

It is largely personal and portfolio work. Outdoor scouting and film collaborations are genuinely open to me, but expect selective projects rather than constant availability or a commercial service.

What are your rates for location scouting on a film production?

Pricing is per project based on scope, location, duration and travel. Since this is not a standard commercial offering, rates are discussed directly. Share your project brief, location, timeline and budget range, and we can agree on what works.

What safety measures do you use for climbing and parkour filming?

Safety is mandatory: proper rigging, continuous communication between climber and crew, dedicated belayers (not doubling as camera), weather checks, and pre-shoot terrain assessment. If conditions or the setup fall short, we pause or reschedule. Vertical terrain requires discipline and respect for the risk.

Are you insured for location scouting and film production work?

Insurance depends on the production scope. Larger shoots typically use the production's own liability cover, which sets crew requirements and should be clarified early. As a registered self-employed professional in Belgium, I work within that framework and confirm coverage before any shoot begins.

Can you scout climbing and film locations in the Ardenne region?

Yes, the Ardenne is a core region for me. I know the terrain, forests, rivers, crags and villages, and can assess logistics: access routes, permit requirements, weather patterns and ideal light timing. It has strong potential for dramatic climbing and movement content.

How do you scout and prepare a climbing location for film production?

I evaluate routes for difficulty, movement quality, camera positions and safety setup, then visit at your intended shoot time to read the light. I document findings with photos and notes covering parking, water, shelter, permits, rockfall risk and crew positioning, then align the location with your creative direction.

How do I contact you about a location scouting project?

Send the core details: location, timeline, budget range and shoot type. I will respond honestly about fit and availability. A direct first conversation saves time for everyone.
