Free solo climbing
Climbing without rope or protection, where the margin rests on real ability and preparation.
On the field
I climbed free solo, without rope or protection, for the pure contact with the rock and the focus it forces. It is in the past tense here: I am less in shape than I was, and getting back to it is a goal, not a claim.
At its best it was the cleanest form of climbing I know, nothing between hands and stone, every move earned. The margin was never in the risk, it was in the preparation.
What the discipline teaches: route reading, an honest read of what is possible, and the discipline to back off when it is not.
Where and how
Natural rock, scouted and climbed within reach of home. Exact lines stay off this page: free solo is documented here, never advertised as a spot to try.
Spot types and access notes are listed on the locations map, not here.

Practising these terrains is what makes the location work reliable: knowing where a camera sits, where an athlete can pass, and what is realistic before a crew is booked.
